Please bear in mind when reading topics pertaining to health issues, that many of these questions were answered by helpful Maltese owners with no formal education in veterinarian medicine. When in doubt seek a professionals advise.

I finally used the Suave Detangler for kids, (I found it at Safeway), which was posted earlier in this group. This product is wonderful!! After giving Taffy a bath I sprayed the detangler on and used a comb, every matt came out!! I felt like I was in the midst of a miracle!! No more matt problems here, and she smells so good!

Robin K. Glad you tried it. I told everyone it was the best thing since sliced bread. Works great especially on our curly Maltese.

Robin, just wanted to say thanks for the idea of the Sauve detangler (found it at Wal-Mart). It worked great!! Scooter, my 6 month old cutie, was so matted I was afraid I would have to just cut them all out. Then I saw your reply and headed sraight to the store, and with a little work and patience he is now matt free. Thank you so much (Scooter thanks you too)!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

To keep the tangles from forming, you can purchase some pet silk oil. Mix the oil half and half with warm water. After a bath and all tangles are removed with your detangler the first time, spray the mixture of oil and water on your maltese, especially on the rear, legs, and chest areas. Blow dry and brush as usual. The hair will not feel oily, but just soft. You will notice that the tangles and matts do not form as they did before. Your maltese will also smell very good. You can buy the Pet Silk Oil from the advertisement area of this website.
