Spaying changes

ORIGINAL MESSAGE:
by Wayne B.

After having read with great interest the medical and recovery criteria from spaying our Malteses', does anyone have thoughts toward personality or physical changes in the pets ? It would be a travesty to change this bundle of joy and energy in any way ! And thanks for your help with all our questions, everyone is very helpful.

DISCUSSION:

Please bear in mind when reading topics pertaining to health issues, that many of these questions were answered by helpful Maltese owners with no formal education in veterinarian medicine. When in doubt seek a professionals advise.

Wayne B. We have 2 females and never saw any change in them after they were spay. Not to worry your sweet loving baby will be the same, it is the only way to go unless you are a breeder.

Wayne, I observed absolutely no change at all in Lucy's behavior following spaying. She is still full of beans, terribly spoiled, curious about everything and person she meets, and quite in charge of all she surveys.

Hi Wayne, Before my new baby I had a female, Casey who was spayed and she had absolutely no personality change at all! It was great! The only thing I did notice was as she got a little older around 7 yrs or so she gained a little weight but that may just be natural as they mature (or I may have gotten a little more generous with treats, etc..):-)

Hi Wayne: A vet told me that a dog's personality should be fully developed by 6 months and that normally there should be no change in personality as long as you don't have them neutered earlier than this age.
