Depression

ORIGINAL MESSAGE:
by Lisa

When I leave home in the AM my Maltese hides under the couch. What can I do?

DISCUSSION:

Please bear in mind when reading topics pertaining to health issues, that many of these questions were answered by helpful Maltese owners with no formal education in veterinarian medicine. When in doubt seek a professionals advise.

I used to get really upset when I left Prissy and Bubba at home, they would cry and scratch on the door. I decided to leave the curtains open one day to see how long they suffered after I left. I left with them crying and scratching. I walked over to the window and peaked in. They had a toy playing tug of war. Sometimes this only lasts a few minutes. Take a peak and see.

I set up the Video Recorder to see what Buster does, Sadly enough, he howls and sleeps on the head of the stairs looking at the door for us to return. Patti

We have a 15 month old who thinks I am her mother. I had to go away for 10 days and my husband said she did not eat of her bowl once in that time. If he did not hand-feed her, she would have starved. He said she was very depressed.

It is hard to leave your dog when he is sad, but if you give him something special to look forward to when you go it might not be so bad for him.Try favourite food, bone, just when you are leaving.and leave a toy he likes.
