I would kile to start paper training my newly adopted pair of maltese. They are M & F, both 7 yrs old. Also, what type of paper should I use? Anyone having suggestions as to how I might supplement their outdoor potty time with indoor paper availability, please advise.
DISCUSSION:
Hi...My Missy will be 8 years old this month.
She has adapted to many situations, both inside and outside...and different houses.
I use a tray, newspapers, and a grate on top.....and clean up is
easy.
It has been fairly easy, as she does have two much younger sisters, and must "go" where they have "gone."
For most of her years, she has been trained for outside.
No, it isn't perfect all the time.....but I have learned patience
and endurance with all of them over the years.
And if you get one soiled newspaper.....leave it in there to help
the cause!! If you catch them early in the morning after they
have slept all night, and after an afternoon nap.....it helps.
And wherever you decide the potty area is....leave it there, as
it does take time.
Let me know how you make out....and good luck !!

We just purchased a 3 month old maltese. She is a love! We have been trying to paper train her and it has been hard. She won't use the wee wee pads--she rips them up. We are now using newspaper with a spray called Puppy Trainer. It leaves a scent that is supposed to attract her. When she goes to the bathroom where she is not supposed to go we tell her no and then she goes into the kitchen by herself for about 10 minutes. We'll see what happens but right now we are hoping that this Puppy Trainer will help.
