ORIGINAL MESSAGE:
One tells me to get two males, then another tells me they will fight all the time.My 5lb. male is 17 mo.old, and should have been named " Dennis the Mennis" We just have to have another baby, and our MacMuffin is neutered You people that have two or more, what do you think? Boy & Boy or Girl & Boy.Either sex will be fixed. The new puppy will be about two lbs. larger. At this time, we have a choice of either sex.We have fallen in love with both of them ,already. No can't get get both. Please ,need help.
DISCUSSION:
If it was left up to me, I would encourage you to get a female. She would bring a different experience to your life, and she would definitely be the "baby girl" of the family. Even if you don't plan to breed now, later you might wonder what it would have been like to have a girl furbaby. In my experience, the girl puppies are usually spoken for before I get a chance to choose. You have the luxury of choosing now. I love the little boys, but I would rather have only one male in the house, since it is less likely he will feel the need to constantly mark his territory if he is the only one. Good luck however you decide. I wish you lots of furbaby love. Susan.

I have a boy and a girl. They get along great...play all the time. He protects her and she is a pain in his neck, but they seem to love each other very much!! Good luck with your new baby.

Honestly if both are altered it makes no difference whether they are both males, both females or whatever. If you have a choice and have fallen in love with one of each, then ask the breeder to let you visit with the two of your choice away from the others - then individually - forget about the gender and just see which one tugs most at your heart.

Terry - I took my first puppy with me to help pick. I had the choice of 2 female puppies - I put Baxter down and then first female was brought over to us - she barked his face off and he went over to wall and disgraced himself - second female was brought to us and she hid behind the lady's legs - I thought she had right attitude - what a con job - she is the boss and takes everything he has and wont give it back you have to distract her and then boy is he quick to reclaim his prize. He sleeps in kennel (he is Bichon) and she sleeps with us. They play well and although she is only 3 pounds she protects him when they go for walkies. They are 8 months apart in age so still puppies - he finds any trouble and she goes along. Would you be able to see how Dennis the Menace reacts to either puppy??

I'm with Katy on this. I also have a boy (19 mos) and a girl (4 mos). She stays in a puppy pen during the day. He has the run of the house, but spends most of his time on his blanket next to her pen. When they are together he is very protective of her; she chases him, his toys, his ears and his tail. He runs away and then comes back, always wagging his tail. They rest together nicely. I love them both, each brings different and similar joys to my life. Good luck in your choice.
