first Maltese
by J. Martine
ORIGINAL MESSAGE:
I am picking up my first puppy ever, a male Maltese, about 11 weeks old, this weekend. Any advice????

DISCUSSION:

Congratulations!!! That is about the same age I got Bailey - definetely puppy proof your home, taking nothing for granted, read the MO homepage under puppyproofing your home. And make your vet appointment now for the day after his arrival and plan to spend every moment of the first week with him (and not only waking moment!)

Many congratulations to you on your new little boy! How exciting for you. You will never be sorry that you brought a Maltese into your life and your heart. Any and all advice you will ever need can be found on this site. It's simply the best! Just love, love, love and train, train, train and you will be happy for many years to come. These little guys are so smart, your baby will simply astound you. (Be careful, though, they can really play some great head games! LOL!) Best wishes.

Hi, J.! Congratulations! You are going to have a blast! I just brought Heidi home 2 weeks ago, (she's now 4-1/2 months old) and I have never had so much fun in my life (except when my daughter was born, but that was 14 years ago, and kids grow way faster than puppies!!!!! LOL). I have returned to this site again and again. You will find tons of information here (even when you aren't looking for anything specific). By all means, puppyproof your house (Heidi will sniff up anything in sight on the floor and chomp on it!) but I find just having patience and giving lots of loving gets you through even those 2:00 a.m. whimpers for the paper! :) Good luck, and have FUN!!!! And if you're anything like me - put on your seatbelt - you are about to be swept away with emotion!!!
