Spay together??
by Robin MC
ORIGINAL MESSAGE:
I need to have both of my girls spayed and was wondering if I should get them done at the same time or not? I am going to be worried sick but thought it might be better for both of them to be sore at the same time. Any suggestions or opinions??

DISCUSSION:

Hi--I'm thinking about doing the same thing, too. I had a tragedy happen last year with spaying, and I don't think my heart could stand two separate surgery days. I figure, too, that with both of them recovering together, that there wouldn't be alot of jumping around because neither of them would feel like it. Let us know how it goes. My youngest won't be ready for at least 4 months (neither will I!)

Thinking about it there are definite merits to having both done, as Lisa pointed out. They will both smell the same and that would alleviate any resistance on either part to accept the other. However, as I would advise even if it were only one - be sure that you have time to devote to their follow up care for a couple of days afterwards. How is little Chloe adjusting?

I had Archie neutered and Zoe spayed at the same time, and it worked out beautifully. My vet required that they stay with her overnight post operatively, and it was comforting knowing that they were together. (Once they were awake, she put them in one cage) They had never been separated since birth, and I don't know how I would ever have explained one's dissappearance for a day to the other!

I think it would be a great idea!! My Bogey was monocryptorchid so his surgery was more like a spay (one teste didn't descend so they had to cut into his abdomen to look for it). I only have the one dog, so he was fine for a day or so, but when Cricket(another dog) came to visit well, it was *heck*. I was worried sick and constantly watching over him because I just knew he was going to hurt himself playing so rough. He didn't slow down one bit...wild child.

Leslie..Chloe seems to be doing much better! On the fifth day she relaxed a little. We also realized how much in shock she must be in due to the change in environment. I think shes going to just fine, thankfully. We are completely devoted to her and will do whatever is necessary to make sure she is happy in our family. Thanks for asking about her!
