Allergy symptoms?
by Daniel & Cooper
ORIGINAL MESSAGE:
What are some symptons to being allergic to a Maltese. My sister has been scratching herself lately and we found a rash. We narrowed it down to either the new detergent we are using, a banana, or the dog. The pediatrician says he thinks its probably NOT the dog. (Being for the first 3 days with the dog she was fine)

DISCUSSION:

The type of symptoms of allergy really depend on the person who is allergic rather than the dog itself. My allergies manifest themselves with itchy eyes that become red and swollen, stuffy nose and terrible sneezing. My grandaughter just gets asthma and some skin rash. The asthma of course is a serious health concern and can be dangerous, especially in the very young. There are products available that can be applied to the dog weekly that will reduce the allergic reaction in the person. Fortunately for me I am not allergic to dogs, just cats and birds. Detergents are definitely a problem for my grandaughter, causing skin rashes. She can be around dogs on a limited basis, not in her bedroom for instance. You might want to have her tested by an allergist but when it was done on me I reacted to practically everthing they injected and the whole area reacted!!
