3's company 4's crowded
by maltymom
ORIGINAL MESSAGE:
1 bichon 2 maltese me and hubby. the four of us are just so comfy but hubby's getting annoyed. he says the babies just take up too much room, steal the covers, and little felix has begun snoring. i see none of this. i told hubby if he does'nt like the company then to go sleep in a crate. please tell me if you think i am being unreasonable. I would love to hear from you all.
DISCUSSION:
Hee hee!! LOL!! I think the obvious answer is that your husband should sleep in the crate until he behaves well enough to have rights to the bed again. And what HUSBAND doesn't snore?
Good Luck!
Cheryl
You have a terrific husband if he has shared your bed with 3 fur babies! Yes, I think you may be a teeny bit unreasonable. Mine sleeps with me until my husband goes to bed, then our baby goes in the crate. However, when hubby goes out of town, and sometimes on the weekends, the furbaby stays all night. It is a nice arrangement.

Unreasonable? Of course not. Your husband by now should certainly realize where he fits in in the pack. Fur babies (bichons included) rule the roost. I think a great dane crate might work well for him. :)

LOL!! I was just telling my husband how much I would like to go and get Danny, the little boy in Mo. Right now we have our 2 Maltesebabies, Cody & Ashleigh, a "foster kitty" from the humane society who has made himself very at home, (and LOVES Ashleigh), and then I came and read your message. Personally, I love sharing the covers and pillows with my Maltese babydolls. Right now we are waiting to see how Cody does on the Prozac we had to start him on, or I'd go get Danny today and he'd sleep with us too! (Has anyone thought anymore about getting him?) He looks so much like my Cody, it kills me to see him in that situation. Soooo, I think you have a very nice family at your home. Get your hubby a nice pillow for him and he should be just fine in the crate while you enjoy the kisses (especially the eye lash ones!), and great cuddles from your babies!! :) gail

Get a bigger bed!

I think hubby is jealous! By him a Nylabone and a few squeaker toys and the jealousy should subside!

My husband has on occasion threatened to make Angel sleep in her crate - this threat usually comes after she wakes him up at 5:00 a.m. just to play. I always tell him if she goes, I go. He must not want to sleep alone because he relents then. But I like your idea better. Why should Angel and I be the ones to sleep in the crate? We are perfectly comfy in bed.
Sandee
I agree with JP.....get a bigger bed....then get another maltese!! Ha Ha!! Actually, you could put hubby through Boot Camp....that would be good. Then make him sleep in his crate, too!

Well, I only have my Buster. But we have a king size waterbed and Buster takes his half out of the middle. And does so quite well. I say let hubby sleep in the crate! Or get a bigger bed.

LOL!!! I have two malts and they both sleep with my husband and me! My hubby knows that the girls sleep will always sleep with us and to tell the truth, he's miss them as much as me if they didn't. The only thing that he doesn't like is when Nikki occasionally tries to lick his feet!!! Tell your hubby that he'll adjust...just give it some time!!

My husband (the person who didn't want a dog originally) is incredibly devoted to Pepper. Well, shortly after Pepper became potty trained he "myseriously" ended up following us upstairs and into bed each night. When I started to complain about not having enough room, my husband decided to go for the King sized bed. There was never any mention of removing Pepper :) I guess we all know who the favorite is in my house!!

our "mochi" and "shiro" sleep with us all the time. the only problem is that, for their size, they take up a disproportionate amount of room. things would be fine if they slept "lengthwise" on the bed like mom and dad, but they insist on sleeping "sideways." we have adjusted by squeezing ourselves onto the outer edges of the bed while the doggies have taken over the middle.
mochi and shiro
Put him in the crate. If he complains about that, put him in the car.
Marie
I think you are being unreasonable! Instead of a crate, put hubby on at least the living room couch!

Isn't this what a garden shed is for???

O.K. This one takes the cake.... I posted a response yesterday stating how my husband decided to go for the King sized bed. Well, this week has been a little hectic; school is starting today etc. So the doggies weekly baths have been put on hold for a few days. Well, I said to my husband that Pepper was not allowed in our bed last night cause he was too dirty. I went to bed early and discovered this a.m. that hubby never slept in bed last night.....he said "he couldn't bear to have Pepper sleep in the laundry room!!!

BTW..Pepper and hubby ended up sleeping on the sofa together!!

Holly slept with me when I was single. I couldn't believe how crowded a king size bed could be. She would get under the covers with me and snuggle all night. Then when I got married, my hubby worked nights. He would come home in the morning and have to pretend he wasn't getting into bed so he could leap in before Holly took his spot (anywhere in the bed). Then they would get all cozy and sleep all day. She was such a good girl. As I've said many times, he had to pass the "Holly inspection" before I married him because her and I were a package deal. He passed with flying colors!! Now we have Bear and he sleeps with us too. He's not as snuggley as Holly was, but he's a very sweet boy. We say he has a king size bed and lets us sleep with him...just like Holly used to.

All they do is snore & steal covers? My SPOILED baby Babs even occasionally leaves up "presents" (on his side ;-)! But how can I let her sleep alone all the time? The only thing that is really bad is the barking in the a.m.! WE have a king - but at least a few cats are also sleeping with us - usually on top of me! I'd hate to ever be without the animals!

well i certainly feel better knowing the majority of true maltese lovers agree with me on this one. i think hubby realizes he's at the bottom of the pecking order with the babies. Although hes been a little mopey lately I think he'll learn to adjust eventually. we just have to be a little more patient and understanding. This morning when i woke up poor hubby had his own blanket and all three babies were under the puff so sound asleep. when i told them it was time to go potty, they all trampelled poor hubby, leaving him with scratches and rather grumpy. Maybe i'll take him for a nice walk tonight when i get home. what do you think? good by 4 now my kindred spirits.....malty mom

LOL from all the very funny posts. My hubby who did not initially want a dog stated unequivically that if I got one he did not want it in bed with us. Well like April, he (the dog) is in bed with us until the last minute and then he goes into his bed (the crate at the side of our bed). I just like to keep him (the dog) accustomed to his crate as a home so when we travel..otherwise he is never crated and I do want to keep him accustomed to it.
.At any rate, I was away over night recently, and my husband telephoned to say that I could not stop him - Bailey was going to sleep in our bed!!!! My husband would be quite happy to have Bailey sleep with us. We do lots of snuggling (husband and dog) before bedtime so he (dog) is not deprived of our bed!
