How does a cut heal?
by Ruben
ORIGINAL MESSAGE:
My baby was apparently cut (about 1 inch long, but not deep)around her shoulder, when and how - I did not witness. Anyway, when I bathed her, I noticed the cut. It was healing like a cut on humans, with a scab. Now she started biting scab and made it bleed. My vet told be to shave the area and put peroxide and may be even a cone around her neck. Things have improved except we found another tiny scab. These scabs (2 of them now) look like a bumb and yellowish, kind of like a mat in her hair, but feels real hard. Is that how a scab on pink skin Malteses' look? I hope she does not have some weird skin desease. She's probobably fine, just cut herself playing, but has anyone had skin problems with their little one? I'm quite concerned.

DISCUSSION:

If you feel a bump, it is somewhat yellowish and it may cause some pain this is a sign of infection -- or an abscess. I would suggest taking you maltese to your vet. Depending on the size of the abscess it may need to be surgically drained. This is nothing to fool around with. In all probability your vet will also prescribe some systemic antibiotics.

Ruben--Cubbie has something like this on his neck and I think you better get your Maltese to the vet a.s.a.p. to begin antibiotics. Don't mess with it, just get her to the vet.
