Tip for wet faces
by Gloria
ORIGINAL MESSAGE:
If your baby has no or blocked tear ducts as Quigley does and constant spillage onto nose bridge try using a Q-tip or cotton ball with a very small amount of alcohol on it and dab the area a couple of times. This was passed on to me by Quigs sitter and recommended by her vet. She does it twice a day - I do it once a day and Quigs face stays drier and much whiter. Be ware though they don't like it and I have much better luck using the cotton ball and one quick dap in the middle of his snout. It helps evaporate the moisture, I've only done it for a couple of days and by the end of first day you'll see the difference!

DISCUSSION:

Thank you so much for the tip. It is certainly worth looking into

That's a great tip, Gloria. I'm blessed that Ellie doesn't have ANY tear staining! Somewhere there were good genes even if she is 10 pounds!

Thanks for the tip! My groomer also said to put a little bit of vaseline on the same place. Then the moisture will just "run off". I haven't tried it yet. Anyone out there use this tip?

Thank you, Gloria. I'll try it on Snowy tonite. Snowy's tear-stain is quite noticeable n I've tried to clear it by giving him pale-coloured food/tidbits, switching to stainless steel plate, etc. n I even consulted with my vet several times to no avail. I wanted to give Snowy TUMS but the vet said we don't have it in S'pore. I wonder. Anyway, thanks again for the tip.

We used the vasoline but the area got messy and was dirty looking- my friend used vasoline all the time before using the alcohol and it does help.

This is a great tip. I had no rubbing alcohol so I used hydrogen peroxide yesterday, to get Binky looking good for her visit to Zee's. It did pretty well, but I have to get some rubbing alcohol. The H2O2 didn't get rid of ALL the color, but it helped a lot. Thanks!

The vet suggested vaseline to us but I thought it would be a bit slimy. I would be reluctant to use alcohol unless you follow it up with a moisturiser as it is very drying and also the fumes may irritate their eyes. A groomer told me to use Vellus satin cream, I'm trying this now and will post back in a week if it works.

Thanks for opening this discussion again :) I had been using alcohol on little dental square gauze pads to clean the babies ears... one time, without thinking I guess, I did their under eyes also with it! Amazing, it didnt clean the already stained area but there was a definite difference. My little Gizmo has no tear staining whatsoever, just a bit of black at the inside corner of his eyes - but, little Chiclet is having a hard time with it. She will be having the tear ducts irrigated soon, probably when she is spayed. I agree vaseline is just plain gooey. Deanna, I used the cream, gooey then it makes the hair stiff! Good if yr going to a photo session tho lol its a good coverup! One thing that DOES clean the hair is a baby no-tear shampoo! I really like it cuz I can wet a thin facecloth & put lots of shampoo on it then rub the hair between my fingers with the cloth! If it bubbles onto her little eyelid, she doesnt complain! :) I do wipe her eyes often during the day also, mainly to keep her comfortable. Also, I buy only treats with no red dye (06 I think it is). So, eventho my little girl has partially blocked ducts, we are managing to keep her face clean & white (well, lemon sorta) lol

I am always so happy to hear what others are using & how much we all adore our precious little babies. Jay, you are to be commended for so generously offering us a place to share our concerns & our love for this unique breed!
