Pink eye - need info
by Charlotte & Misha
ORIGINAL MESSAGE:
My baby, Misha, has all her black points except for one eye. Is this usual? Will one eye always be pink or will it eventually turn black? If so, approximately when? Does anyone know? The vet doesn't know and the breeder said it would turn eventually. Any info you can give me would be appreciated. She's 3 months old. I fell in love with her immediately and the price was one I could afford. So she's here to stay. I was just curious about the eye.
DISCUSSION:
Maltese puppies sometimes are slow developing all their pigment and that appears to be an inherited trait. Her littermates may have 'turned' sooner. But there also may be Maltese that never get all their pigment and the pink rim may be retained. You just have to wait and see. Years ago I used to see a lot of pet Maltese with pratically no pigment even on the nose.

Charlotte, My Tiffini has on pink eye, I was told by the breeder that it would never turn black. She was the only female of the litter and was to go as pick of the litter but was refused because of this. I am so glad it turned out this way because I had been hoping for a little girl from Nov, and I brought her home last June. She was a year old on Apr.18th. and sure enough it is still pink. She is adorable and I wouldn't change one thing about her (except sometimes the barking Ha.)She is a perfect spoiled and ruler of the house furbaby. She sure has enriched our lives - hubby, Precious 17yrs. and Tabbitha (cat).Don't worry, it won't make any difference unless you have her as a show dog.
