Prescription eukanuba?
by Betty & Turbo & diesel
ORIGINAL MESSAGE:
Hi, I remember reading on a previous post that a few of you said that your furballs prefer Prescription Eukanuba over "people food"?? I went to Petsmart and looked for this but they didn't have it stocked. I then realized that maybe you actually need to get this as a prescription from the vet?? Please tell me where I can get some - my turbo needs something to wet his appetite for dry food (he's got rancid breath and lots of tartar problems) and doesn't like chew toys - so I am relying on his regular food to help me clean his teeth.

DISCUSSION:

Betty, it was my Rudy that passed on cooked chicken for the prescription Eukanuba. You have to get it at the vet's. It's new so don't let them tell you that you're nuts. It comes in 15 lb. bags and it was around $25 if I remember correctly. Rudy has enough food to last him for a year, but it freezes well - I just transferred it to freezer bags. How big is Turbo? Rudy is 5 lb 6 oz (just got back for weighing him) and he has a hard time with large kibble. This kibble is about the size of a knickel so I have to cut it in half.

Betty, usuaIly prescription dog food is only available from the vet. I do not know about Eukanuba brand but my girls eat Science Diet prescription food and I buy it from my vet. Have a great day!

Betty, the only prescription Eukanuba food I've seen is Nutritional Recovery, and it's made for cats and dogs that need to gain weight. You do have to get this from a vet, but it's not like getting a human prescription (no paperwork, no pharmacy), you just ask them for it. However, if this is the food you're talking about, I'd ask the vet whether he/she thinks you should be feeding this, since it is designed for malnourished animals and may make Turbo gain too much weight.

thanks for the info. marie - my turbo is about 6lbs. He's not big per say - but has a little bit of a belly from great grandma sneaking him snacks when I have my back turned. He's very healthy other than his teeth problem --- so i figure if he really enjoys his food (passing up chicken - wow!!) i have to try this one out. With what i currently have (nature's recipe maintenance) he only eats when he's really hungry and realizes no snacks are ging his way. Thanks again!!

Betty, the first eukanuba I purchased was from a vet. It was an 8 lb bag that cost about $18.00. We now have eukanuba delivered right to our house in 40 lb bags. The cost is about $28.00. It does freeze well. We use about 3 bags of it each month. We subscribe to AKC Gazette and find advertisments in these magazines. I just called the 1-800 number. We also have a farm and ranch store close by called Orchelins, that sells Eukanuba. Good Luck. Debbie and her Flower Garden, Rose, Lily, Honeysuckle...........
