ORIGINAL MESSAGE:
Hi!I just got luckey 5 days ago...He doesnt sleep at night he just wines.. I think he misses his mommy he is now 11 weeks old...I thought that mabe if I put a hot water bottle in with him at night he might sleep? Has anyone tried this?Does it work! Please get back to me soon!! thanks :)

DISCUSSION:

Yes he misses his mammie. It takes a few days before they stop whining. Put some stuffed animal toys with him. How old is he ?
Janine

Try an alarm clock too. This is all new for the little one and it will take a few days or so until he gets used to being away from his mom and his brothers and sisters. All new puppies seem to whine for a while, so just hang ing there.

Cubbie only whined one night! I kept him in his crate right next to our bed. I talked to him and comforted him thru that first night. By the second night, he slept just fine. As soon as he was potty-trained, he got to sleep with us and has ever since! Hope this will help you with your furbaby.

Ahhhh, new parents. Like Cathy said, put in an alarm clock - the tick/tock kind - the louder the better. Please just make sure the alarm isn't set! Also, put his crate where he can see you. My Rudy cried horribly the first two nights. Then I raised his crate off the floor and put it on a chest right next to the bed. That made all the difference in the world. Put some snuggly toys and some towels or something with which to make a bed. Also, put a dark colored towel or something over the crate but leave a side or two uncovered. Ummmm, can't think of anything else right now, but will post if something else comes to mind. We've got other new puppy owners out there that I'm sure will offer suggestions. Good luck and sweet dreams.

Yes, it takes a few days for these furbabies to get use to not being with their biological mommie. I put a wind up alarm clock under Busters bed when I first got him. I also put a Teddy Bear in with him. He did great except for waking me up at 4:00 a.m. to go out. That only lasted about a month. Just like having a new human baby. It gets better.

Your little baby isn't used to sleeping on his own.......I definitely agree with Janine and Cathy's suggestions. Wrap the clock in a towel - I think that the ticking noise is supposed to sound like their mother's heartbeat and the stuffed toys act as surrogate littermates...just make sure they have no buttons or bits that can be chewed off and swallowed. Might also help if he sleeps in the same room as you, preferably where he can see you and as close to you as possible.

Give lots of hugs and kisses. All the love you lavish on him now will come back to you one hundred fold later. A hot water bottle wrapped in a towel might help, but close proximity to you at night is better. Cuddling with littermates all his life and then total isolation...put yourself in the little guy's place, and give a little.
