Tanner has no teeth!
by Jennifer
ORIGINAL MESSAGE:
PLease help me. My vet told me that Tanner would start to loose his babyteeth around 4 months of age, Well, Tanner wouldnt eat and still is not eating, I thought it was because he was affrid of his bowl, however, I looked into his mouth and Tanner has no bottem teeth and only one top tooth, he does have teeth way in the back ( molars) but that is about it. Is it possible all his teeth to fall out at the same time? Also, when is he going to be getting his adult teeth? Since he can't chew I wanted to try canned food, I am affraid to do this because I don't want him to get used to the idea of canned food, and then not want to go back to dry food. Please all advice is truely appreciated! Thanks..Jennifer and Tanner
DISCUSSION:
Jennifer, Heidi is almost 2 but I do remember that there was a time when she seemed to be losing all her baby teeth at once. The adult ones caught up and now she has a perfect set. Let us know how Tanner does.

Yowsa! I know Phoebe lost several of hers at once and did have gaps for a while, she did have a bit of trouble getting her dry food chomped up - but she managed. I would keep the dry out, the chewing will help the new teeth come in, but if it looks like he isn't eating enough you might want to soak some of it in water to soften. I know what you mean about the canned food - so if you just moisten the dry it won't spoil his palate for the rich taste of canned.

I know this is in regard to baby teeth, but I once had a poodle who was toothless. I was about 10 years old & had Buppy on my go-cart. A quick turn & a crash later, me & Buppy were being rushed to the vet by my parents. Blood was pouring, I was screaming & cyring--we thought Bup had internal injuries. Finally, the vet checked her out. diagnosis: Knocked out teeth! For the next 4 years, we had to feed our epilectic, toothless miniature poodle a special diet of soft & chewy food! (no more worry about tarter build-up!) At the age of 14, she passed on to Rainbow Bridge after a long life of being loved & cared for by me. PS--she forgave me for the accident, but I never rode that go-cart again!!!!I am now 25 & have had my baby Dusty for almost 4 years. He also stays away from the go-carts!

Hi Jennifer, I'll try again. Heidi, who is now 22 months old, lost alot of her baby teeth at once. It never interfered with her eating, or playing. She now has a complete set of beautiful teeth. I'm sure Tanner's will start to come in soon. Let us know.
