Won't go potty?
by Jennifer & Maggie
ORIGINAL MESSAGE:
Maggie has started this new trick of hers. I will take her outside the minute I get home(right after she gives me her kisses). I will walk her up and down the sidewalk and she will go pee pee, but no big duty. I don't know what is going on. I have spent the past two nights outside walking her around. She is so silly, it is like she is scared of her poopy when it is coming out. (As we all know, you can see their cute little pink butts and know when they are going to do their duty.) I think she is finally going to go and she feels it and jumps like something is trying to grab her butt. Then she won't go. The other night, I got her to go finally after being outside for a total of 2 1/2 hours. Last night, she never went and we just went to bed. This morning she was in my face asking to go out. Right when we got outside, she went. I just can't figure out why she won't go at night? I know she has to. Help. Thanks!

DISCUSSION:

i have had similar problems with my Maltese. She refuses to go outside but prefers her paper. She will run away from it just like a missile. If i don't catch it right away, She'll go back for a little snack. Also have you tried walking away from your home? My Yorkie will not go unless she is at least 2 blocks from home Good Luck:)

Poor little Maggie! Sorry Jennifer, the only thing I can think of is that she might be a bit constipated. If you haven't already done so, it might be worthwhile making a phone call to the vet, just to be on the safe side.

Usually, Noah prefers to go "number 2" on his paper, too, unless we are out of town.

I read a tip in a book that if you use a cardboard match it will help your dog go. You wet it a little first and then put it in. (backwards of course, or rip the match part off) They will want to push it out, and at the same time they will go.I have not tried it. It sounds a little odd, but not cruel. You might try it and tell us if it works. It said if one did not work you could try two or three.

Maggie is going a little better now. She is just so silly. If I piece of grass hits her the wrong way, she jumps. She can be such a sweet little mess. She has been eating her regular food and seems to be happy and healthy. So I guess she is just being silly. I am leaving her with a friend(staying at my place) for the weekend. So I have informed her of Maggie's poopy problem. I'm sure all will be fine. Maggie loves my friend and my friend loves Mags. This is just the first time I have ever left her with anybody besides family. It is only for one night. I can handle it. Thanks for your advice. The one about the match is a little weird. That would really scare Maggie. I try not to stick anything in her areas that she would rather me stay away from. She is silly enough as it is. But boy do I love her. Thanks again.
