tropical areas?
by Gino
ORIGINAL MESSAGE:
Is tropical areas sutable for a maltese? thanks!!

DISCUSSION:

We live in Hawaii and Snowball doesn't seem to have a problem with it. Are you planning on moving to another area. The only thing I would say is watch out for the plants. There are a lot of poisonous plants that could do harm to your curious little baby.Good luck and keep plenty of water on hand so as to avoid dehydration.

Hi Gino, we live in Sydney Australia which, although it's not tropical, can get pretty hot and humid in summer - last Nov-Mar the temp was almost constantly in the mid to high 30's (celsius) or hovering around the 100 mark in deg F. I can't see any reason why a maltese wouldn't be OK in a tropical region, but if you don't have air conditioning it may be kinder to keep his hair clipped very short.

We live just outside of Houston and in the summertime this place gets hotter than alot of tropical places. My maltese lives in air conditioned comfort though and refuses to go outside except for "essentials". She has always hated the heat and I've heard this is the norm.

We live in Houston, Texas - It's hot and humid - Alex doesn't seem to mind. I am the one telling him he should now come inside because it's too hot outside.

well, fort lauderdale is pretty tropical - especially so far this summer. the more year-round hot a place is, the more normal air-conditioning is. everywhere is air-conditioned around here. except for outside, of course. Otto likes to be outside for a few minutes - then, in to the cool for both of us. We do walk around the neighborhood in the cool after supper, tho. as soon as the streets are not hot anymore.good luck!
