DISCUSSION:

Leah, Congrats to you! I will be getting a new baby maltie soon also, (July 5) so I know what you are going through. My advice is to be patient and have fun. Good Luck to You!!!!! When are you getting him/her, and what will you name it?
Laurie

Leah, Congratulations! I don't think there is anything really to "worry" about. You will just go thru the puppy phase for about 2 years. My Buster is 10 months old and very active. They require lots of attention. Lots of grooming and lots of love. Good luck and keep us posted.

Leah! I'm so excited you're so excited! I'm excited too. I'll be taking my Ahzsa home on July 15th, God willing. Don't worry! Be happy. Have some nutracal on hand in the event the new baby gets picky eating. When they're very tiny you've got to make sure they don't go into hypoglycemic shock. If that ever does happen, first thing you do is mix some honey and water and administer with feeding syringe. Then call the vet. But the nutracal is a good preventative. They like the taste too. Please let us know when your baby arrives. Boy? Girl? Name?

Laurie! I guess July is THE month around the Maltese Only site for brand new babies. What are you expecting? I wish we were all around NYC. We could have had a puppy playdate.

Leah, Congrats. I can't begin to tell you what a wonderful choice you made. I have had mutt dogs all my life and they were wonderful, but Lucy is just the best. It sounds to me like you've done all the research just as I did and I can tell you you won't be disappointed. These babys are so spirited and loving even Lucy's daddy who was not a real dog lover at first just melts over this little love ball.

Leah, congrats on your upcoming little one! Just remember, having a puppy is like having a new baby, except this one can already walk. Patience and love go hand in hand. I am looking to adopt my second Maltese to be a buddy for my Puff. I hear the second one is easier to train than the first :) Good luck and let us know how things go.

Congratulations Lucky Laurie! I know you will love your little furbaby to little fur-pieces. Good luck, have some patience because this little one will be exploring EVERYTHING, but most of all have fun!

Fe and Isabel-thanks for the congrats! Since I use the name Kinderlady in the chat room, some of you have already heard me carry on about getting her. I'm getting a little girl whom I have already named Emma. She will be 12 weeks on July 5. I will let everyone know when I actually get her, I won't be able to help myself!!! I am definately ready NOW!!!
Laurie
Laurie you are Kinderlady! Yippee! Finally you are getting Emma! I am so happy for you. Take lots of pictures and share! Cubbie and I wanna see you and Emma together! You will be blessed!

Leah, Congrats! What a great choice for your first. Toby was my first "dog" (don't tell her I called her that!), I was very nervous too. We've had Toby for 2-1/2 months and here's my advice: visit this site daily, or several times daily. You will find answers to almost any question. You can search the archives or most of the basic info I needed to know was along the side bar to the left. Join the chat group in the evening...Libby does a GREAT job and the others are so nice to answer questions I have had. Post a question here at the Forum. These are great people and you will have an answer from several people, the next day. Beyond that, relax and get ready to experience pure joy. I had no idea how much Toby would enrich my life!! Good luck and I can't wait to hear about your furbaby.
