Penny-can works!!
by Charlynn
ORIGINAL MESSAGE:
Hello, everyone!! If you remember, awhile ago I posted a message about walking Sunny. How when he sees other dogs and sometimes people he barks. I tried everything, yelling, screaming, choke collar, obedience training. You name it. But just the other day, I started taking "THE CAN" with us on walks and boy what a difference. I used it just a few times at home and I knew how much he hated it. But anyways, I didn't even have to really shake it at him, just walking with it in my hand was enough. I've used it two days and he hasn't done his loud, embarrassing, almost screaming barks. Just thought I'd share that with all of you who might have this problem. Try it!!
DISCUSSION:
Charlynn,I agree with you, THE CAN is a miracle worker. I use it too, and boy do they hate it. Chamie is the barker in this family, but Sandy is starting to copy him. Just seeing the can in my hand keeps them quiet.

I agree with the can treatment on the Maltese. We use it on ours to stop her from barking at neighbors. We use pebbles in the can instead of penny's...we spend the penny's on treats for our Samantha! Hee Hee

I also use the penny can, but for getting Tiffini to come when she does not mind. Think I will carry one in the car. She barks at everyone, but maybe that is not so bad, at least if anyone was to bother her there would be lots of warning. I also read where they think they are protecting us. Has anyone else read or heard of this? She is very protective of us anywhere.

Not to be too dim here, but what's the penny can??? :-) Lily also has a tendency to bark and get out of control and perhaps this could be a solution.

In case no one responds, the penny-can is a soda can filled with about 10 pennies. Tape the hole and you have a penny can. I works great. Good luck!!

Charlynn, Thanks for sharing your success story! I too have a barker, 6 year old Tiffany, aka Tiffy. She goes Bonkers when she sees large dogs and nearly strangles herself pulling on her leash trying to get at them. I know she is frightened by the big dogs, but that doesn't stop her from either trying to drive them with an "insanity routine" or attempting to protect me. Tiffy also barks at visitors, some more than others. The only way I had
been able to get her to stop barking at people was to pick her up - the wild little one would suddenly become as good as Gold! She's only been with me for about six weeks so we still have much to learn about one another. From now on, I will keep a penny can by the front door!
