Petsmart grooming???

DISCUSSION:
Kim, I never send my girls for grooming, but last year a dog died at Petsmart in Melbourne, FL. They put him in a cage and put the dryer on for a long time. He died of stress. I'd think about their technique before I'd leave my girls anywhere. It might have been an accident but it got me to thinking.

I never had my dogs groomed at PetSmart. Always had them groomed at my vets place. The lady that I bought Alex from had one of her dogs groomed at PetSmart and she was not happy about it. She was really angry at them because they messed up the dog's coat. But then, not all PetSmart stores are the same. Depends on the groomers.

I did it once and I did not like what I saw. They did not do very good job on Munchkin. Than I found out couple of dogs died when they are using a dryer in a cage. And I never went back there again for grooming. I was luck to find someone in my neighborhood that groomes dogs in her home and she does excellent job. Have a wonderful day!
I took Maggie there once. It was when I lived in St. Louis, and I will never take her to another PetSmart again. It was just a really bad experience. We waited for her for 4 1/2 hours. Which they said it wouldn't take that long!!! But the big thing was, that the job they did was awful! They forgot to trim her nails, she had more mats on her when I went back to pick her up. My husband ended up getting a refund. I was so upset. I had to groom her all over when we got home. But like I said, that was one is St. Louis. You might want to check with people in your area. Good Luck.

I've gone to Petco grooming. They are pretty similar companies. But anyway, I loved the way Sunny looked after they groomed him He also got a puppy cut. Although, I think they did want to keep him for about 3hrs. if that's long to you. They seemed to have treated him well. He didn't seem traumatized from anything. So I guess that's a sign. They even gave him a report card. He got all A's.

Never went to Petsmart for grooming, I have Tasha groomed here at the house in a mobile unit. So far, so good.

I have heard alot of bad things about Petsmart and was wondering what the general concensious was. I guess what I heard was true.

I had Bee Bee groomed by Petsmart once. They practically shaved him. I was furious. I will never take him back there. To be honest, I have not be able to find a good groomer for him. Every time I take him home he looks like a plucked chicken. I have been grooming him myself since March. He actually looks a lot better.

I am wondering if the quality of the grooming at PetSmart or elsewhere isn't dependent on the groomers they hire. I had always taken Lucy from a baby to a (please excuse me) pet store where the groomer was great. Then one day a few months ago Lucy came home from there with some kind of injury to her back. When I asked about it everyone at the groomers said nothing happened there--however she was fine when taken, couldn't (wouldn't) walk and was in great pain (prednisone, Xrays, pain pills) afterward. So I stopped going there. Meanwhile back at the ranch--I had taken both Luce and Carty and all the rescue babies to PetSmart once or twice for baths, etc. (and stayed to watch, I might add). They did an average job, I thought. BUT I placed one of my rescues with the bather there and now I (and Luce and Carty)get VIP treatment. The head groomer does the grooming and she does an excellent job, and since I know that Denise (Raimie's new mom) is watching over the kids as if they were hers, I no longer wait and watch. So overall, my experience with PetSmart is a good one--I might add that when I've taken rescues in they have always given me a discount on the grooming. Perhaps this is a policy of my local store here in MD, but they tell me they also do this for the humane society fur babies who are in need of grooming. Long post to say don't reject ALL PetSmart grooming out of hand. If you want to try them, do it and stay close and watch. You may find they do a great job.

I took my maltese to the Petsmart in Vermont and they did a really bad job. They just took some of the mats out of her fur and there were a lot of bald spots that they made.I'll never bring her there again.

We have been very happy with the Petsmart neer us that does grooming. They will let you stay and watch or leave them. They are most helpful with questions also. The manager there does Mika because she loves her. The quality is great and I know many people in my area that have switched to it and are very happy. I don't know how a bad job could happen at our Petsmart as Caroline (the manager) checks and does that finishing touches on every dog before it leaves. I agree with Cathy. Each Petsmart is different. Another that is fairly close to us does an awfull job! We had to take Mika there one time for a quick nail trim and they cut her nails too short and boy was it a mess!! Check it out before you rule it out.

Hi, yes I did take my baby to petsmart never again, I would have done a better job myself. The lady that was to groom her way not nice at all, she held Kimba's wiiskers so hard untill she cryed I just wanted to tell her off but had no experiance this was my first grooming. I wanted a cute puppy cut and it looked so bad you can see the scissors marks. I was speechless and I paid about $38.( in Mississauga, Canada) everyone told me what happend to her she looked better before. It has been over a month now and she still looks cute. I love my baby and will not take her there again.
