Aromatherapy babies?
by Opal, Lalita, & Veba
ORIGINAL MESSAGE:
Aromatherapy babies?Hello Everyone! I'm just curious to see who uses aromatherapy /essential oils/ homeopathic practices with their fur babies. Aromatherapy is a part of my daily life, and Lalita's & Veba's. In fact I'll be taking a Aromatherapy class this fall, after which, I'll be a certified aromatherapist. ( I'm just doing it for personal enrichment.) I make all of my own perfumes, dish liquids, shampooes, hair oils, moisturizers, body sprays, etc... I make all of Lalita's shampooes, ointments, body sprays, etc... In fact, my essential oil supplier calls Lalita her 'Aromatherapy baby' [ggg] Lalita loves the extra attention and she smells and looks wonderful! I've never had problems with insects bothering her or myself, and I receive compliments on my perfumes, skin & hair. People always tell me that Lalita doesn't smell like a dog. She smells like a delicate bouquet of flowers. (I use Ylang Ylang along with other oils in her shampoo and body sprays.) I even use a diffuser at my place so I always have a relaxed environment to gently embrace me after a hard day of work Opal, Lalita, & Veba

DISCUSSION:

How old does a puppy have to be before you are able to put different oils and anything with fragrance on their bodies? Are you worried about allergies? The idea sounds wonderful to me!

Opal, I'm also a big fan of essential oils. I make (or at least adulterate!) all of my skin care stuff and I also use essential oils on the Beasties and around the house. I would love to do a course in Aromatherapy, maybe in a few years time. But............. I just want to warn everyone to be very, very careful with essential oils. I've just developed an allergy to lavender oil which has been a big blow to me because I used to use it a lot (I guess that's why I became sensitised). Please don't let undiluted essential oil EVER come into contact with your skin. (Not even lavender which is supposed to be safe to use undiluted on burns - if I hadn't used it on burns I'm sure that I would never have had a problem.) If it does, make sure you wash the area well. I'll still use my oils but will be more careful now, in the meantime I have to stay away from skin contact with lavender, even if it's very dilute. I've always used extremely dilute essential oil solutions with Rastus and with the Beasties and had good results, so I'll continue to do so. I think that essential oils, used carefully, are a wonderful alternative to synthetic chemicals.

I talked to my veterinarian, Polly and he suggested that I wait four months before I put anything on her. No, I wasn't concerned about the allergies because I was extremely careful. I talked to my friend who is an aromatherapist (has her own store 1 block from where I live, and has been doing this for 15yrs) what were the best essential oils to use on these little babies. She uses them on her many pets You are right Deanna, even though they are all natural it doesn't mean you can go 'crazy with it'. You have to be extremely careful when using the essential oils. I use a very weak dilution on Lalita. Since the essential oils are concentrates from plant materials, a few drops will suffice. I'll be getting a still to make some of my own essential oils like lavender, geranium, sage... later this summer. (Yes, I'm really into it!) In a 16 oz. bottle of Lalita's shampoo I might add 4-6 drops of essential oils, mixing very well. Before I apply the oils on myself I make sure that I mix them (essential oils) thouroughly with a carrier oil. 7-25 drops of essential oil to 3 1/2 fl. oz. of a carrier oil. I have about 15 books on the subject. It has been a part of my daily life for the past five years, and I'm constantly learning. I have taken several courses on the subject, and I'm looking forward to becoming licensed this fall. As I said I make different blends for myself. I do make blends for my friends and there pets, so there are a lot of pretty 'Aromatherapy babies' prancing around

I use homeopathic practices for my Lucca. I have not, as yet, graduated to aromatherapy, but give me time. Lucca sees allopathic and holistic vets. Although you can never totally prevent disease in any living being, I believe I can make his life better through more natural methods, including diet and medications. When we first visited the holistic vet, she gave Lucca a dose of Thuja for vaccinotosis (sp?). He vomitted within 10 minutes of the treatment which freaked me out, but, as I learned, it was his system's way of expelling the poisons. Of the many things I appreciate about the holistic vet, she asks lots of questions and is willing to fully explain everything -- so unlike most doctors. It has compelled me to approach health in a whole different way.
