Puppy teeth question
by Vickey
ORIGINAL MESSAGE:
Puppy teeth questionLucas is starting to lose some of the bigger teeth in the back. I do not know why, but for some reason I thought that only the front teeth come out and grow back. Do all the teeth come out? Should I be worried?

DISCUSSION:

When Noah was around 5 months, I started finding puppy teeth everywhere; stuck in a toy, on the carpet, you name it- It seems he lost them all within about a week's time and the adult teeth were in just as quick. He chewed a lot more during this time, so the nylabones or gumabones really helped a lot. The rapid tooth loss is perfectly normal. Just watch that all the baby teeth come out. Sometimes an adult tooth will come down on top of the baby tooth. If the baby tooth does not come out,it might need to be pulled.

Everything is fine with Lucas, Maltese dogs change all their teeth. Just keep watching if they all fall out, sometimes the front teeth still stick in there, while the new ones are already out. They might then have to be removed by your vet.

Buster lost his teeth at 5 months. All of them. We found several and of course I put them in his puppy photo album. When he was teething he chewed everything in site so be prepared. Had my hands chewed up too. Have plenty of chew toys and it will help. Often these teeth need some help to come out and make way for the permanent teeth. When the baby tooth is not shed before the permanent tooth comes in, you may want the vet to check it out. Just keep a close watch.

Tasha started losing teeth at about 5mos. I never found any{where did they go} but I was always checking her teeth out. When she was spayed at 6/12 mos. the vet had to pull a few puppy teeth as the adult teeth were in along side the puppy teeth.

Vickie, As the same as Dottie, when Tiffini was spayed, the vethad to pull 2 teeth and now she has perfectly beautiful teeth. So don't worry. And by the way I never found any teeth either.
