I Hate Baths
by Buster
ORIGINAL MESSAGE:
I Hate BathsOk..here is my problem: I hate baths! My mommie says I need them but I really feel they are unnecessary. She puts me in the kitchen sink and starts the water running getting me all wet and then here comes that awful shampoo! So I figure, I'll show her and I try my best to get out of the sink. Ha! She gets more water on her than me because I am so strong and hard to hold being all wet and slippery. My mommie is wanting suggestions on how to make bath time more fun!

DISCUSSION:

Our mommy finally gave up and joined us. We were soaking her and the entire bathroom when she bathed us in the bathtub - Niki always tried hard to climb up her arms the whole time she was in the tub, and I (Gizmo) was always walking to the far end of the tub so that she couldn't reach me. So she started taking us into the shower. It has a long hose that reaches the floor of the shower, and she just sits on the shower floor now and bathes us. We like it a lot better - no more panic! - and Mommy seems to leave the conditioner on longer now so that our hair is nice and shiny and tangle-free.

Well, I don't know how to make it more fun, but my husband and I give Lily a bath together. We have a big bucket that she can't climb out of - I put a towel in the bottom so that it's easier on her feet - and then we use the hose attachment from the shower to wash and rinse her. Usually, Daddy holds her and Mommy does the shampooing. It works fairly well. Also, I think she realizes that with two of us there, the possibilty of escaping from this situation is severely limited! Naturally, we end up getting soaked anyway, but the struggling is kept to a minimum. Good luck Buster!

My daddy does the same thing that Gizmo and Nikki's mommy does! I like it a lot better and mommy says I look real cute when I sometimes put my paws over my eyes to shield them from splashing water!

Buster Babe...It's me "your ever lovin" Trink here. You gotta get over this bath thing my sweet thing. I hate my men to be dirty and smell like a dog! You know how I love the water...just think positive. Your Mommie won't let anything happen to her baby, you know that! Just remember that "real men" do take baths! My snooty sis Mandi-Bear hates baths too but someone bathed her when she was a puppy and got water up her nose so she is scared of baths (usually poo poos in the laundry sink!) After it is all over she prances around and is her usual "stuck-up" self... thinking she looks so pretty. Don't you feel better too darlin? Bet you think you are something when it is all over and you look so handsome ...huh...you hunk you!

Sometimes sticking them under the direct flow of the faucet is the thing that scares them. If you can get a small hose with a shower type head that you can point exactly where you want, you may find they like a little "shower massage"!!

Buster, C'mon pal, you need to do what I do, everytime I see the bathtub water running...I hide under the dining room table!

Dear Buster-- Lately, Daddy's gives me a bath, I give him a lot more heck than I do my mommy. Mommy doesn't put up with my shenanigans. It's not hard to sit still, but it's more fun to get them wet! Keep up the good work Buster....mommy can always wear a raincoat!

P.S. I hope your mommy won't yell at my mommy in the chatroom because of the above.

Buster my main squeeze, you and I need to get together real soon so we can share notes.I hate the sink it looks like a big black hole and reminds me of that dark locked bathroom.I have so much fun getting my mommie wet. The look on her face is well worth the torment of bathing. The best part after the sink is getting the towel to play tug-of-war and tag.To see mommie acting like a nut chasing me to get dry! Well i gotta go hide .....I hear the sink running and mommie calling with that bath time tone. Keep up the great work cuz i love ya even if u do stink!

To Buster, I don't know what all the fuss is about. I just love my baths. I love playing outside in the the garden getting dirty but when it comes time for my weekly bath I can't wait. My mum baths me in the laundry tub with lots of warm water the warmer the better. I love it so much that I lay down and relax so much that I almost fall asleep. My mum has to hold up my head so it doesn't go under the water. Buster your mum has to be the boss, be good for her and just relax and enjoy. To Buster's mum - sometimes if Buster is at the same height as you we don't respect you. I suggest you stand tall over Buster and growl (a lound BAH) at him then praise him when he responds. It really does sound silly but a trainer showed my mum this techniqe and it does work. It shows us that THEYare the dominate one not us. Hope this helps.

Hey Buster, buddy Gus here. You go for it. Splash, fight, cry if you have to. Get your Mommy wet, I bet she really loves it. Just remember, you are mommies special little boy and you shouldn't have to take baths if you don't want to. Licks, wags and good luck on the bath taking.

Hi Buster, it's Annabel. I hate baths too! I've tried everything I can think of to get my mommie to stop doing this to me. I've tried jumping out of the sink, getting my mommie soaking wet, I've even tried biting her! I really felt bad for that. My poor mommie, she is usually so nice to me. I don't know why she gets mean every week and gets me all wet. I don't think I ever smell THAT bad. I think I'm going to try something new....maybe I can make her feel sorry for me....I'll let you know. Love, Annabel

I use to hate my baths too but after I stopped getting so upset about having the water squirted all over me, I realized that when I go in that big kitchen tub my mommy fusses over me and kisses me wildly and keeps telling me what a good girl I am and how much she loves me. My mommy talks my ear off in the tub. I get so much attention now I have her fooled, I just stand there and she rubs me all over with this good smelling stuff Oh boy it feels nice. But I get very upset with her when she tries to put that water stuff in my face. I have made it clear to her that I will be that good girl and taked all the kisses she wants to give me, but don't put water on my face. She is doing much better. I think I have her trained so she keeps the face thing to a minimum.

Buster:I used to hate my bath so much when I had long hair, all that water and soap, and noise was real bad, was so scary, and I hated to have it done to me. Well now with the short hair the bath is a snap, quick and out, so I love it now, and of course it is in the bathtup, my people will not let me take a bath where they do the dishes they eat off of. Which does not make any sence to me because I have to do all the dishes, I have to spend hours licking them clean, before they put them away, and bring them out for company to eat off of, go figure, people make no sence. And Buster if you could send me a picture of you in the bath, I would have one more picture to put of you on my Buster wall.

Hi Buster it's Taffy, My mommy puts me in the laundry room sink. She's smart because it's deeper and I try but can't jump out. She trys to bathe me as fast as she can. Then she puts me on top of the wash machine, and can't jump because it's too high, but I hate when she blow drys my hair and cut my nails, I give her a hard time and try to bit her! I really get mad, but they she makes a big fuss over me and tells me how beautiful I look!

Buster, Sophie here. I LOVE my bathtime. I get a yummy liver treat just before I go into the sink where the water is cozy warm. My mom starts with a really great body massage and I can hardly keep my eyes open it feels so good. She also uses a non fragrance shampoo called Mane 'n Tail (That other perfume stuff was too strong for me, I tried to get away from it as much as I could.) I get so relaxed I can't even get out of the sink; who has the strength to shake!! After I'm dry I get ANOTHER liver treat. Then to top it all off, I run all over the house barking, rolling in the rug and generally feeling really good about myself. Give in, Buster . . . try it, you'll like it!
