Face Stain
by Rose Burke
ORIGINAL MESSAGE:
Face StainI wanted to share my latest discovery with anyone who might be interested. I purchased some Tea Tree Oil Shampoo from Foster & Smith , I was concerned about giving my Pook a bath every week and wanted to start using a shampoo for dry skin. It turned out that the shampoo works better than anything else I have used for face stain. My husband and I got down right silly because it was the first time we had ever seen our baby without any stain on his face.

DISCUSSION:

Could you elaborate more on how you use it. We need all the help we can get. Thanks in advance.
Matt

Rose, is the teatree oil working on the tearstains??? Wow!! A miracle. Please post any hints you might have. Did you leave it on your kiddo's face for any length of time or just shampoo as you normally would?

Rose: I shop Foster Smith all the time. I'll try anything that works. Thanks pulling out the new catalog right now I'm getting low on whiting shampoo.

Thanks for the info. I'm willing to try anything but would rather use something externally like shampoo rather than an antibiotic. My next Foster & Smith order will have this shampoo on it.

Where did you buy the shampoo? Do you have any tips for washing your dog's face without getting the shampoo in his eyes or mouth?
Andrea
DITTO on the above. Sophie's stains are the worst I have seen on a Maltese.

Rose, Please tell us more. As you can see, we all want to know exactly what you did. Before I bathe or do anything around Comet's eyes, I put the sterile vaseline in Comet's eyes to protect them. I get the little tubes of vaseline from Foster and Smith. BTW, my husband also uses it in his dry eyes and it is much cheaper than Lacrilube and works just as well. Looking forward to your next posting, Rose!

Rose, I think I was just reading somewhere that this shampoo repels fleas, too, or was I dreaming?

Is this shampoo for the entire body or just the face? I also give Valentine lots of baths and was concerned I might be drying out her skin. Thanx Mary

Rose, as soon as I get off my puter, I am going to get out my Foster Smith puppy catalog and get that shampoo, I am willing to try anything safe that will help make my Puff's face not look like her eyes are bleeding (that is what some people think). Thanks for the tip!!

Cathy: We have not tried the Tea Tree Oil Shampoo on Pookie's tear stain. It is not the kind of shampoo that won't burn the eyes, so we were very careful around the eye area. The area it worked so well on is what I call his mustache and beard area. He seems to get a reddish kind of stain in that area, and even the groomer does not get it out. That's why we were so surprised. I can't wait to tell the groomer that I take him to.

The way we use the Tea Tree Oil Shampoo was to just wash is face as usual when we gave him a bath. My husband and I both give Pookie a bath (I always kid that I am glad we did not chose to get a Rotweiler). I'm the shampoo person so I squeeze the shampoo into my husbands hands and he rubs it into Pook's fur. He uses his hands to work the shampoo into his face area really well because that seems to be one area where he gets the most dirty. Much to our surprise when he dried off, his face was nice and white. I have since washed his face, as I have to do sometimes between baths, with the soap. He likes to bury things in the gravel in the yard so his face gets really dirty. Anyway, I put a little of the soap on a wet wash cloth and wash his little face with it. It works really well. I make sure I rinse all soap out of his fur really good. We live in a very dry climate and I worry about his developing dry skin from all of the bathing an washing up.

It's amazing what Tea Tree can do! In aromatherapy it's considered 'Natures First Aid' I'm an avid supporter of aromatherapy, homeopathic, naturopathic remedies. I have @ least 50 different essential oils in my possession. (I will be getting my liscense so I can practise aromatherapy, commercially - if I want to this fall.) I make Lalita's shampooes myself and I use Tea Tree as one of the ingredients. Here are some of the benefits of that oil: Antibiotic, antibacterial, antifungal, anti-inflammatory, antiviral, diaphoretic, expectorant, immune stimulant, anti-parasitic, anti-infectious, decongestant...along with many, many other physical benefits. I make Lalita little perfume sprays to because I find that the essential oils not only smell but also repel all insects! I take my Lalita out walking daily, and she dives and plays in the grass, other doggies and she has never had a single flea! I make all my own perfumes, sprays, hair oils, shampooes, bath gels etc... and I have never had a problem with insects biting me and I find that my skin and hair (it's very long) is in better condition. When my friends are swatting at biting flies and mosquitoes, Lalita and I aren't bothered by any of them [ggg] . Lalita also has a bright coat, and people constantly tell me that she doesn't smell like a 'dog'. She has a nice clean floral smell to her. Well I 'm glad you found a product that you enjoy!
