Tooo Friendly?
by Dottie
ORIGINAL MESSAGE:
Tooo Friendly?Anyone out there having this problem??? Whenever anyone comes to the door, in the house, be it pizza delivery, maintenance person, or just anyone off the street, Tasha goes completley bonkers, crying, jumping, wanting attention. God knows I give her sooo much love, but she is so overly friendly with strangers, she's just a little over 8mos. My other Maltese was not this way at all, in fact kind of aloof. What to do?, or will she outgrow this? Anyone can see she is defintley MY dog, but she just has this thing about getting attention from strangers. HELP

DISCUSSION:

Hi Dottie: My little Pete is the same way. He is almost 3 yrs. old and spoiled rotten. When anyone comes in be it stranger or family, he barks and jumps up and down on his hind legs until he is spoken to my this person. Some times I have to tell the person, "Please speak to Pete or he will not quit barking for attention." After the person speaks and acknowledges that Pete is there he goes and jumps on the sofa and is perfectly content. I think he just wants to be acknowledged. Maybe I have him too spoiled but how can you not spoil these precious babies?

Our Monique is the same way, but I don't mind and neither do the visitors. We had visitors last night who couldn't stop laughing at her--they were calling her a white dustmop!! Our last dog was just the opposite and we had to put her in the kennel when anyone arrived or hold her back from growling at them. I much prefer the friendly attitude. Our friends have 3 maltese and everyone knows when you visit them you will be bombarded by white furballs (and if you don't like it--don't go back!!) Be glad you have a friendly 'dustmop'!!!!

Bee Bee is exactly the same. He doesnt bark, but he jumps up and down and will not let you ignore him. He acts as if everyone is his long lost friend. They get kissed to death.

Dottie--Lucy isn't just slobbering all over visitors to our house; she's there for strangers on the street as well. She has this routine she does on walks that goes like this. Ah--I spy a human coming (3 blocks away). Lie down on sidewalk/grass. Wait. Ah they are getting closer..tail wagging 90 miles a minute. Almost here now--sit; tail wagging. Oh so close--up she gets wiggling her entire little behind. Oh Mamma, there they are right here--and they get treated to my little one stading on her back paws kissing any piece of them she can get to. The more humorous part is that always, of course, there are those who just don't like dogs. If they walk past quickly ignoring her (or, heaven forbid, walk in the street or cross it) Lucy just stands there staring at them, like What the Heck??? Then she looks at me like I did something to make them ignore her! It is just too funny. Be happy your little one is outgoing. Makes for a happy house, don't you think?

Hi! My Bam-Bam is the same way. But he only does it to little girls and people who come over a lot, that he knows.

Hello, Dottie! This is the other Anne....I would be ever so glad she's friendly. The only dog I know of that is toooo friendly is a wet, sandy one coming at you on the beach! By the way....to the newer Anne: Glad to have you on here, but we really need to do something to clarify our identities! What do you think about using your last initial also? Or I will if you Don't want to .....OKAY, everybody...I am now annehudson!

Yes, Lalita is the same way! In fact if you have the audacity to igonore her.. Queen bee will actually bark at the offender. When the 'culprit' asks me why she is barking I tell them it's because they are ignoring her. When they pet her she stops. This rarely happens people usually make a beeline for her the instant they see her

Dottie, My Bailey does this, too! In fact one time when I ordered a pizza, she got so excited that she ran out the door and actually jumped in the car with the pizza delivery man!

My little ball of fur is constantly barking at people whether it be in our house or out on the street. While it can at times be cute it can sometimes be annoying. She does get attention from everyone and everyone absolutely loves her and finds her barking adorable. I think it's just their way of saying "Hey, I'm here too...... talk to me or I won't leave you alone.
