Aussie looking for puppy info
by me
ORIGINAL MESSAGE:
Aussie looking for puppy info I am looking for a small puppy with a good temperament that doesn't bark much. I have friends with maltese puppys and they recommend them, could you tell me some good and bad things about maltese. Like are they hard to train, aggresssive at all, etc. I would really appreciate some advice..

DISCUSSION:

Buster is my second Maltese. My previous Malt, Chico who was 16 yrs old passed in Oct. 97. I would definately recommend a Maltese. They are very affectionate and smart. I got Buster at 14 weeks old and it only took a month to potty train him to go outside. He is now 9 months old and a very happy, lovable little guy. They require alot of attention. They are also high maintenance dogs that require alot of grooming. You will get alot of responses here on this subject but its your decision. Research this website very carefully before making a decision. Good Luck and keep us posted.

Hi Me: I got KoKo at 12 weeks and Shayna at 11 weeks 5 days, they are now 2 3/4 years and 18 months. KoKo trained in a heart beat, Shayna has been our project. She probably would be considered trained by any other standard, but she has to live up to her sister's standards and KoKo is "The Best Dog in the World". They both are so loving, they truly are our babies. We are retired with 5 grown human children and the girls have filled our hearts. Go for it as far as we are concerned all other breeds are just DOGS. Welcome to Maltese Only and please keep us informed.

I have a 5 month old maltese named Darby. I have to say he is the sweetest dog I have ever known. As to high maintenance, I think he is ever so much easier than my lhasa. I brush him every day, and he never mats. The brushing takes all of 5 minutes and he seems to enjoy it a lot (especially the "cookie" at the end!) He was very nervous and snappy at first, but colamed down completely now that he knows it is short, painless, and he gets a treat! I can wash him in the sink, and he is ready to go in less than 1/2 an hour. My lhasa takes forever and I finally had to give up and send her to a groomer. Her coat is always matted and gets really dirty very quickley. Darby stays much, much cleaner.

We have a 2 year-old Maltese (called D-Day), and live in Melbourne, Australia. He is our first dog - getting him was one of the best things we have ever done. He was easy to train, and does not take a lot of time to look after. We have him groomed every 6 weeks, and keep his coat quite short - this means we only brush him for 15 minutes every couple of days or so. He gets a bath every 2 weeks or so. They are definitely 'inside' dogs, and love being with you, however, he copes quite well during the day when we are at work - he lives in a small yard with good cover during those times. Their best attribute is that they are just plain fun to have around ... always happy, energetic, loving, sweet natured etc. etc. I could go on for ages. The bottom line is that if you want a 4-legged friend, buy a Maltese.

Lexie is the first dog I have owned. I actually wanted to get a larger dog but as we live in NYC and I don't have the time or inclination to take a dog out three times a day, my wife and I decided after doing alot of research to get a Maltese. The best decision I have ever made in my life. Lexie is smart, affectionate, clean, doesn't smell like a dog and is very sweet. She also stole my heart, which is interesting as some people who know me don't think I have a heart.

I live in Brisbane, Queensland, and I have a 10month old female Maltese, Milly. Australias' climate is just perfect for thiese little furballs. Summers are great and even in Winter it isn't freezing. So I would definitly recommend a Maltese. They have a wonderful nature and are just the best little dog.

Well, bye.
