Wind and Matting
by Carrie & Sophie
ORIGINAL MESSAGE:
Wind and Matting Do any of you have any tips for controlling matting on windy days? We just returned today from the San Francisco area and will be visiting this area many times over the summer. Because of the combination of the wind and Sophie's harness, she has several mats that we could not get out! We will have to go to the groomer tomorrow to see if she can do a better job, but I'm positive she will have to cut these areas!

DISCUSSION:

Carrie, I know what you are talking about! My only suggestion is to take off the harness while in the car or inside anywhere, thats safer anyway. Otherwise, take a brush with you :). The harnessess seem to make them mat so much faster, but its so much better for them rather than a collar. Try splitting the mat with small, sharp sissors. Slip it under the fur, making very sure that there is no skin, as it usually comes up with the fur. Then cut through the mat out towards the end of the fur. Do this in a few places, then use a pin brush or comb. Sometimes they come out easier when the dog is wet right after a bath. Spray a detangler right on the mat and rub in, then use a comb. Good Luck!
