Morris, PA Beverly Passe - (253)858-9266 (referal only) Gig Harbor, WA DEDICATED TO PEOPLE IN RESCUE Submitted by Debi Stokes I wasn't a pup when I came to your home, I'd been dumped on the road, left to roam. Don't remember the people except the pain. They left me to die in the cold and the rain. You were driving down the hwy, it was late at night When you saw the faintest glimmer of light. You took a chance and turned around Got out of the van and knelt to the ground. My quivering body felt the gentlest of hands. I knew I need not make any demands. In your heart, and your home, there was always room For those who would face certain doom. You healed my body and you healed my heart. You gave me what I needed, a fresh start. When I cried at night, you were always there With soft words, a kiss, a hug to share. When I misbehaved and would cower with guilt You only showed love.....up to the hilt. You loved and cared for me in sickness and health Our love for each other was more precious than wealth. Even when you were tired and had a bad day You'd always come home to me and say, "I missed you my baby. I'm glad to be back." Then you'd give me kiss, a hug and a pat. We'd have a nice dinner then go out to play There was so much love I wanted to stay. But my eyes, they faded and my heart grew weak As my time grew closer you could not speak. You held me tight, tears flowed from your eyes We both had to say our sad good byes. The release from pain we knew must end No more time on this Earth would we spend Running in the fields, playing ball Sitting quietly together at the end of it all. But our time together is not through Because I'll be there waiting for you At the edge of the Rainbow Bridge I'll stand Until I once again see those gentle hands. I'll ran to you with tail held high We will never again have to say goodbye. My love at death, it does not end Because you are, indeed, dogs best friend. Jeane Illsche June 21, 1998 Permission given to reprint MALTESE HOROSCOPE Cancer Dog (June 22 - July 22) Submitted by Chrisy The Cancer Dog is protective and caring. Woe be to the burglar that chooses the home of a Cancer Dog. Cancer Dogs are emotional and intuitive; they know what's on their owner's mind even before the owner. Cancer dogs are also sensitive and tender. They're also the most sympathetic of all dogs, intuitively feeling what their owners feel. Unfortunately, the same is not true for the mailperson. Let's see.........how about tips for walking your dog on a loose lead (not pulling). Start with the dog beside you (on your left is the "American " way). Hold leash with loop around right thumb, then *fold* it a couple of times and hold with both hands at your waist leaving enough lead to be a bit slack. Say, "(dog's name), come along" and begin walking. When the dog gets ahead and the leash becomes straight (taut)....and it will...... quickly change directions. Don't be looking back to see if the dog is coming or calling her,etc.....just go! Do this EVERY time the dog is ahead and soon he/she will be watching you, trying to figure out which direction you'll go next. Praise him when he's in the right spot. And TALK to your dog while you're walking so to keep his attention. Talk silly....they like that! QUOTES AND POEMS The censure of a dog is a thing no man can stand. (Max Beerbohm) Dogs display reluctance and wrath If you try to give them a bath, They bury bones in hideaways, And half the time they trot sideaways (Ogden Nash) If you can't decide on a shepherd, or setter or a poodle, get all three; adopt a mutt (SPCA Motto) Submitted by Patti & Buster: You know you are a Maltese lover when you won't allow your children to eat in the livingroom; yet your Maltese bring their food on to the carpet and chomp each one individually, getting crumbs everywhere, and you just smile, and think they are so cute! Submitted by April & Noah: "Words of Wisdom" (true story) One day, our six year old son Ryan, was lying on the floor with Noah as I was fixing dinner. Noah was all snuggled up to him and I could hear Ryan giggling. All of a sudden I heard Ryan say, "Noah, please turn off your tongue!" Submitted by Chrisy "I talk to him when I'm lonesome like, And I'm sure he understands. When he looks at me so attentively, And gently licks my hands. Then he rubs his nose on my tailored clothes, But I never say naught thereat, For the good Lord knows I can buy more clothes, But never a friend like that!" (W. Sayton Wedgefarth) Submitted by Chrisy My Maltese Warm eyes, wet lips Gently touch my finger tips Soft sighs, silky hair Longing for me to touch her there. Her begging eyes Her whimpering cries Urgent needs of one so sweet Bring me quickly to my feet The night is warm, there is no doubt It's my turn to take the Maltese out. A DAY IN THE LIFE OF A MALTESE MOM by Lori Ann Richards - owned by Lily 4:00 am Mommie roll over on top of Lily who growls in irritation, and now that both are awake, comes and lays tummy-side-up so that she can be rubbed on... 4:05 am After 5 minutes of tummy rubbing, Mommie's hand gets a little tired, and she starts to fall asleep again... 4:06 am Lily insistently pokes her nose at Mommie's hand to get it rubbing again... 4:15 am Bleary-eyed, Mommie now has to take a potty break, since she's awake, so Lily and Mommie go to do their business. 4:20 am Now that Mommie is up, Lily thinks it's PLAY TIME! "Here Mommie - here's my Sock, Mommie, Mommie!!!! Throw my sock!!! Throw it Mommie!!! Come on! Come ON!!!!!" 4:21 am Mommie, in the midst of a huge yawn, throws the sock, but her aim is off and it hits Daddy in the head... 4:22 am Meanwhile, Lily has run after the sock at full speed...and also hits Daddy in the head... 4: 23 am Now Daddy is up too... oh boy! Now it's REALLY play time!!!! 4:24 am "LILY! GO TO SLEEP!" 4:25 am *sniff* Lily settles down...Mommie gets back into bed...Lily gets back into bed on top of Mommie and gives kiss after kiss, rubbing her little face all over Mommie's face... 4:26 am Everybody is back to the business of falling asleep...and we hear a contented Maltese sigh emanating from the little furball at the top of Mommie's pillow... HELPFUL HINT FOR TEARSTAINING Submitted by Jay Bianco This was passed along to me from someone else who received it from Robin Oliver (Australia). Its supposed to really help with controlling tear staining. I haven't tried it...yet so I can't comment on what kind of results to expect. Mix the following with your Adult Maltese's meal 5 days a week: 1/2 tsp. -Norganic Apple Cider Vinegar 1 tsp.- Lecithin Granules 1 tsp- Raw lambs fry As a sidenote, it took Robin 3 1/2 yrs of trial & error until slowly she found the answers with the additives above. She also feeds a natural diet-no commercial dog food at all. She also says that once the hair is stained, it is stained and has to be cleaned up but with the new hair growing you will see results.
