Maltese Dog Rescue News
Rescue, how many people are not aware of what a dog rescue is? A lot I am afraid. After working in rescue these years I am always surprised at how many people do not have the faintist idea that there is any kind of animal rescue.
Rescue is that in all kinds of circumstances, to help animals and owners to find new placements for beloved pets. To help individuals who are interested in offering a safe loving home for animals in need. Bringing these two fractions together is a very rewarding job, no question about it.
In our case of Maltese rescue we get dogs from all different situations. Often times owners who for some reason can no longer care for the beloved pet. This can be for various reasons. Financial, health, death, divorce. Often dogs have been acquired when the owner is single or childless. Life style changes come in many forms. Even a new job that might mean the dog is being left home alone for extended periods of time can be reason to place a dog into rescue. It is not owners who just do not care, often it is owners who care enough to find a better life for their pet and are willing to make the heart wrenching decision to place the dog, for the welfare of the dog. Very often it is having a toddler in the home, who being a child does not understand how delicate a Maltese is and the owner out of concern will place the dog.
Of course there are the horror stories as well, the dogs that come out of shelters and puppy mills. These are the heart breakers and the rescues that are so rewarding, to be able to put these dogs into loving for ever homes that they may never have known before.
Individuals or families who are considering taking in a rescue must give it a lot of thought. Will they be able to make the commitment it might require when adopting a dog out of these situations, only they can decide. The rewards that comes with adopting these dogs are many fold, I hope as more people become aware of rescues they will consider it the best source for that new fur baby.
