Eye irritation

My 11 year old maltese keeps trying to wipe her eyes on the sofa and other furniture. She gets a lot of "gunk"under her eyes. I have used eye drops from the vet before but it doesn't solve the problem. Any suggestions??

• You need to speak with your vet again. When a Maltese tears, the skin beneath the hair under the eye becomes very irritated. It is important to keep it as dry as you can. Check back with your vet. Your dog could have an eye infection. It is important to get this checked out as soon as you can because they eyes are very sensitive.
