We have the static problems in the summer when it is dry here.
A couple of things that may help; make sure that when you girl is groomed
they not only shampoo but use a good quality conditioner. At home you
should also use some sort of conditioner/cream rinse diluted in a spray
bottle tha you mist on the coat when you are brushing; something else to try
is the laundry-dryer sheets rubbed over the coat along with the cans of
anti-static spray sold in many grocery stores.

I too have the same problem with my dogs. They like
to roll on the carpet and really turn into turbo charged fur balls.
I have been using a human product put out by pantene pro-v called
pro-vitimin light spray conditioner. It is sold in most department
stores in the shampoo department. It is a leave in hair conditioner
that is in a pump spray bottle and is around four dollars. It also
has a pleasant scent.

I have long brown hair, and have recently had a problem just like your
Maltese. My hairdresser told me to use static-guard and spray it on my
brush before I brush my hair. He said if I have a really bad problem that I
can actually spray a little directly on my hair. Try this - I bet it works for you.
Good luck.
