How long does it take until a Maltese has her puppy's

After a Maltese begins active labor they should deliver the first puppy within approximatley an hour. Ususally they will deliever the next puppy within 10 to 15 minutes to one hour. One of my girls had a litter of 5 (whew -- the biggest litter I've ever had) and she whelped the entire litter within 2 1/2 hours. If you have a bitch that you know has more puppies to deliever and she has stopped all active labor for more than one hour you should definitely be in touch with your vet. I like to have my gir ls X-rayed a day or two before their anticipated due date to check for adequacy to whelp, puppy position (although they can turn) and number. By knowing the number I know if they still have puppies to deliever after the initial puppy.
