Types of dog food
I use 1/3 c. Wysong Maintenance & Anergen II mix; and 1 T. of a homemade
rice/vegie/garlic/chicken mixture, twice a day. My 4 y/o Maltese seems to
like this very well, and while we've only been on this for a few weeks, I
can see no problems. He is a rescue dog; he rescued us about 6 weeks ago and
I have no idea what he was eating before that. But he seems pretty healthy
and weighs in at about 7 lbs.

- Try pedigree puppy dry, but do not use pedigree Performance, I tried it and
after a week all my dogs had orange faces, also do not use Science Diet dry
small bits it makes them itch. I like Science Diet canned maintenance.

- Hi..I'm not sure if I'm making a mountain out of a molehill or if I have a
legitimate concern I have a wonderful 6 month old female who has never been
very interested in her food. I tried 2 kinds. Eukinuba small bits and now
Nature's Miracle lamb & rice for puppies. She weighs only about 4 1/2 lbs. I
feed her in the am & again when I get home from work about 10 hrs later. She
is never very interested. She is always much more interested in being with
me. I try staying in the room with her when she eats and sometimes that
helps. At the most she will eat 1/4 cup..usually half that. She constantly
begs for people food which she never gets...the only exception is a little
peanut butter inside a hollow bone 2-3 times a week... maybe 1 tsp. (re. the
begging she's really good. When I say no she goes away right away.)
Anyway..here's my concern. Today I bought her canned Nature's miracle. I
mixed 1/4 of the small can (1 1/2 oz) with a 1/4 cup dry and she went nuts!!!
Did not leave her bowl til she had licked it dry. So Happy. My question is
this. She was very healthy and gaining the proper weight before. Now that she
is eating almost twice as much will she be in danger of getting fat? She is
pretty active..lots of playing & running. Thanks for your help.
Terri
- Terri, I have been feeding my two maltese wet and dry food combinations for
5 years now. There is always a bowl of dry food for them in their feeding
area, and they each get a serving of wet food each evening. Be careful, if
you have two maltese, they may not like to eat in the same area. Our boy
dog will only eat his wet food in the living room on the hearth, not near
his sister. Dry food doesn't matter, they eat that whenever they want.

- Alan..Thanks for your response..However my original question has more to do
with the increased amount she is eating now that I am combining both wet &
dry. I'm concerned about significant weight gain if she is eating twice as
much as she has for the 4 months I've had her. I'm not feeding her more than
the guidelines listed for the food. It is just that she was growing fine on
less. She just loves this new combo she does her little "doggie dance" at
every feeding time. Thanks again.
