I have some questions

ORIGINAL MESSAGE:
by Karen/Jewel

I was wondering my baby Jewel is 14weeks she weighs 3 and a half pounds how much should she be eating a day? I'm feeding her Eukanuba she only eats about 3 tablespoons a day if that. I mix 1/4 teaspoon of chicken babyfood to try to coax her alittle otherwise shes fine. I would also like to know what people use for shampooing their dogs someone recommended a baby shampoo/w conditioner until she gets older what do you think?

DISCUSSION:

My dog weighs 5 lbs. and he only eats about 1/3 cup a day. I wouldn't worry too much, if he has food available, he'll eat if he is hungry. I would recommend a shampoo made for white dogs, and a conditioner, to make it easier to brush and comb him. Just be careful not to get it into his eyes. They do make a tearless puppy shampoo also.

I too was concerned when I got my first Maltese that she was not eating enough. The vet told me to leave fresh food and water down, and she would eat what she needed. She is a healthy grown dog now and I guess he knew what he was talking about. I used baby shampoo with conditioner when they were puppies. I still use it on their top knot, ears and facial hair, as it does not sting. I use another preperation for the rest of their coat.

Karen, if your puppy is in good weight and acting like a puppy should, she's obviously getting enough to eat. At that young age, having food and water available at all times is a good idea because puppies seem to get distracted easily and sometimes forget to eat. As for shampoo, I have raised alot of puppies using White Rain Shampoo and Conditioner for Kids. It contains a detangler and leaves them smelling just great plus is doesn't hurt their eyes.
