I currently own two maltese and one yorkie. One maltese is spayed and the other in currently in her second heat. I was going to breed her and was told to wait until her third heat. She is about 4 lbs. Will it be better to wait and if so, have her receive a 4 lb male?

DISCUSSION:

The size of the stud dog has nothing to do with the size the puppies will be when they are whelped. On a bitch that weighs 4 pounds, you should be prepared to have to have them delivred by c-section. I feel that waiting until the age of 4 years for a first litter is just asking for trouble. This is like a woman waiting until she is in her late 30's to have her firwt baby, not a easy thing. Carole
