My Maltese's breath

Why does my maltese of 8 years have bad breath? His teeth are also decaying and they are falling out, and they have a greenish tint to them. What is happening and what do I do?

• Get your maltese to a vet ASAP, and preferably a veterinarian that specializes in dentistry. Your dog probably had bad tartar build-up, gingivitous and/or other periodontal problems.

  The bad breath is from diseased gums, plus more than likely, if it is to the point you describe, it is also probably painful for your dog to chew -- I'll bet it is mainly eating wet food because it is having trouble chewing dry food.

• Alex, You need to take your dog to a vet and as soon as you can. From the sounds of it the dog has really bad dental problems, and I have read that this can lead to the death of a dog and often suddenly from infection in the bloodstream. So hurry to the doctor!
