Dry food

My 3 1/2 month old little girl is eating great! I have started adding some puppy formulated wet food to her 3 meals. She eats at 6:00 am , 12:00 pm, 3:30 pm, and then at 7:00 pm I put down just a little dry food to tide her over. I was wondering how gradually I should increase the amount of wet food so that it won't irritate her stomache. I want to continue to mix it with dry food but I want her to have more wet food. Any advice would be most helpful.

I am really glad to see that you still want to give your little girl dry food, even if mixed with wet. One of the many vets I have had over the years was a veterinary dental specialist. My Amanda has had some teeth and gum problems over the years and one of the primary reasons according to that vet is that when she was younger I feed her nothing but wet food, either high quality or a special recipe that I made. She also did not chew hard bones that much either. The problem that occurred was that occurred was that her gums did not get the stimulation that was needed, and also tartar built up more rapidly, and therefore, the gum and teeth problems. So I urge you to continue some type of dry food or lots of dry bones.
As to when to add more wet food, I will leave up to the experts like Jay or Larry or Bobbie. But I am curious, why do you want to increase the wet food? I have a 4# Yorkie-mix that I feed him nothing but dry. I am curious if there is some reason I should be also giving him wet? Or if anyone has any info on it. Thanks.

There is no medical reason to supply wet food to your dog, even in such an early age. It is only our (human) "need". Wet food is even not recommended because it is too rich for a puppy and it is less balanced for dogs need. It is recommended for old aged dogs without any teeth but in your case, you can stay with the dry food only. My Maltese eats only dry food and has no problems.

I'd like to add my 2 cents worth to Rebecca's note. My vet said that Maltese are particularly prone to gum disease. She said to save the wet food for special occasions. I still give Lucy wet food on top of the dry because it seems to "get her started." But I use only about a teaspoon and a half in the morning. She eats her dry food all day and she doesn't "love" it like the wet stuff, but bad teeth and gum disease can cause all sorts of problems, as I understand it, in some cases they can even lead to the death of a dog. At about 8 months, Lucy already had some tartar and the vet questioned me carefully about her habits. Lucy chews a TON of chews. That is her morning routine, chewing on a rawhide chew and her way of calming down before bedtime. She always crawls into bed and lies in my lap and chews on a rawhide chew then goes to sleep. So she is getting plenty of chewing, but she still had tartar buildup on her teeth. So, if I were you, I'd try to keep the wet food a small amount of the overall feeding.
