Adult Maltese-male/female-differences
I know there is no difference in the general look of Maltese
puppies. As adults, do males and females both look alike?
Carole
- Carole, as often as I have people come into my house, look at several of our
Maltese all running together in a pack, and then remark "How do you tell
them apart ?" you'd then think that they must be, virtually,
indistinguishable from each other (by sex). However, I will have you know,
in no uncertain terms, that in Maltese, as in all animals, the male of the
species has certain characteristics that are "male" in nature, and the
female, likewise. Most knowledgeable dog people, especially within their
breed, can gaze around the ring at a dog show at a group of dogs at ringside
and not only pick out the puppies from the adults - but pick out the "dogs"
from the "bitches", as well. If you could spend some time really looking at
the structure of the heads of several hundred Maltese you would pick up on
what I am talking about. It is very difficult to explain to another "dog
person" in words, much less to someone with a limited exposure to examining
dog structure and shape analytically.
