Maltese coat length

I have a 15 month old Maltese (Emma) and I was wondering when will her coat finally reach it's full length. Also will she be able to cope with a full coat of hair in summer when the temperature is 30+ degrees C and very humid. She does seem to be coping okay this summer but her hair is not the full length yet.

• Growing a coat to "full-length" like you see on many show dog Maltese is not easy. A Maltese that is a 1 1/2 years old that has been conditioned for showing should have floor length hair. Most Maltese that are kepts as pets get to run around on the carpets, sit and jump up and down off the furniture, run in the grass, etc. All these activities can break and rub against the ends to the hair cuasing breakage. Other issues in growing a long coat include the type of brush you use, whether you use a contion ing spray to groom with, how frequently the dog is ahted and with what.

  Growing and maintaining a long full-lenth coat is considerable work.
