Paper shredding Maltese

We are paper training our puppy (14 weeks). He uses the paper almost faithfully, however he also loves to shred them with his teeth and eat of few of the bits. Any suggestions on how to deter the shredding/eating and still re-enforce the positive paper training he's doing?

• A lot of pups do this. I have never had an adult do it though. So what I am trying to say is he should grow out of this behavior. Try getting him a toy or maybe a slipper or shoe to chew on and play with. He's tearing up the paper because thats fun to him. He needs more toys! Hope this helps.
